Where do I even start with this amazing book?! If you haven’t read it. YOU. HAVE. TO. But have tissues ready. It is absolutely heartbreaking at times. Even several weeks after reading… I am still shaken up about everything the story revealed through its tragic details, ” it is based on one of America’s most notorious real-life scandals—in which Georgia Tann, director of a Memphis-based adoption organization, kidnapped and sold poor children to wealthy families all over the country”. The story bounces back between 1939 and present time in a way that compels you to not stop reading. At times the story is so heartbreaking it seems unbelievable but you have to remind yourself that it is based off of things that actually happened! It is one of those books you need to read to make sure nothing like this ever happens again. “Before We Were Yours” is filled with trauma, heartbreak, and pain..but it is also filled with courage, strength, love, and most importantly… hope.
